The main objective of this project (ESCAPHIB, Structures and Systems for a Hybrid Propulsion Passenger Aircraft) is to investigate four new key blocks of electrical technology that will be tested in a hybrid aircraft demonstrator (E-FAN X) developed by the AIRBUS Group. This project is developed in a consortium: AIRBUS OPERATIONS SL (project leader), ALTRAN, COMPAÑÍA ESPAÑOLA DE SISTEMAS AERONÁUTICOS SAU (a division of Héroux-Devtek Inc.), ALAVA INGENIEROS SA and AIRGRUP SL, with the support of several research organizations and technology centers, one of them the University Carlos III of Madrid. In the collaboration between UC3M and Alava Ingenieros SA a fiber-optic based fire detection system is developed. The proposed system measures temperature and temperature changes using fiber optic sensors that must be fire resistant and maintain their function in these conditions.

In this project with GAMESA, partial discharge tests have been carried out in collaboration with the UC3M High Voltage Laboratory. The activity of partial discharges has been characterized by using monitoring systems and techniques based on previous research work and developments of the UC3M research team.

ARQUIMEA RESEARCH CENTER
“Development of a photonic hyperspectral system for the assessment of foreign objects in airport environments”

The aim of this project is the design and development of a hyperspectral imaging system (operating in the sub-THz and THz range) with capabilities for automatically classifying foreign object debris in airports.
